Opening Notealise for the first time
macOS adds a few checks for apps that are not from the App Store. Here is how to clear them — you only do this once.
Notealise is not signed with an Apple certificate — I have not paid for the developer programme yet. That is the only reason macOS stops it. The full source is on GitHub.

Move Notealise into Applications

Not working? Here’s what worked for me
The Open Anyway button in Privacy & Security can take a minute or two to appear, and sometimes it needs a nudge. This is the exact sequence that worked for me:
- Open Notealise from Applications so macOS registers the block, then click Done on the warning.
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to Security. If there is no mention of Notealise yet, wait a minute or two.
- Still nothing? Quit Notealise, open it again from Applications (it will be blocked again — that is fine), then check Privacy & Security once more. The Open Anyway button should be there now.
- Quit Notealise.
- Click Open Anyway in Settings and confirm with your password or Touch ID. macOS opens Notealise for you.
On macOS 14 (Sonoma) and earlier you can skip System Settings: right-click (or Control-click) Notealise in Applications, choose Open, then Open again on the dialog.
